So, what is 'Sober Curious'? Luke Mathers, author of Stress Teflon is in the studio this week to talk about the way we look at alcohol today, habit loops and some interesting facts about how these are affecting us.
Luke Mathers is a conference speaker and the author of Stress Teflon. 28 years in business have taught him that stress isn’t going away any time soon. If you want better health, relationships, and success, you need to get good at stress.
As one of the original directors of Specsavers in Australia, Luke was part of the biggest retail roll-out in Australia’s history. 100 stores in 100 days. His practice was the biggest in the country and set global records that were previously unheard of.
Luke retired for the first time at age 31. After transforming his UK Specsavers practice (increasing turnover by 350% in just three years) Luke returned to Australia to relax and put his feet up. It wasn't long before he realised, he missed something... STRESS!
Helping people become Stress Teflon is his mission and, as the book says, “it’s good being you when stress doesn’t stick.”

Dr Duncan has extensive experience in High-Performance Sport and led the performance science teams that directly contributed to the drought-breaking winning performance of the NSW State of Origin team (2014 & 2018), the history-making performance of the Western Sydney Wanderers FC winning the Asian Champions League (2014) as well as making the grand final of the A-League (2016) and the Australian Men’s National Football Team (Socceroos) that won the Asian Cup (2015) and qualified for the World Cup (2018). In 2019, Craig worked with the Iran National Men’s Team (Team Melli) at the Asian Cup where they made the Semi-Finals.
Dr Duncan works extensively in the corporate environment implementing a unique performance strategy that enhances the potential of employees, management, and founders. Dr Duncan implements strategies and technology developed at the highest level of performance (professional sport) and individualized for each client. Dr Duncan is also an accomplished speaker who presents regularly to teams and organisations on how to maximise potential.
In the academic arena, Dr Craig Duncan has successfully developed and implemented postgraduate courses including The Master of High-Performance Sport (MHPS) and the Graduate Certificate in Performance Analysis (GCPA) at the Australian Catholic University. All these achievements were formally recognised when Dr Craig Duncan was awarded Australian Sports Scientist of the year (ESSA – 2014).

Niall ran an international furniture company and quickly doubled its revenue from $20 to $40million after taking over as Managing Director. He then decided to start doing what he would love most; building a new brand and customer-focused company that would help promote health and fitness and be a great place to come to work each day. VERVE Fitness was formed in Europe in 2017 and launched in Australia in 2019.
It has quickly established itself as the leading supplier of gym equipment and operates from its state-of-the-art showroom and HQ in Gold Coast, among the largest in the country for fitness equipment.
He has lived in Germany, South Africa, and California, making Australia the fourth continent he has lived on. He loves working out and CrossFit (when he can avoid pushing too hard and getting injured!).
