#230. Tour de Cure Raises Over $73 Million for Cancer Cure Research
Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
Nathan Picklum and Greg Young, Co-Owners of Body Science is live with Geoff Coombes, Co-Owner of Tour de Cure. Talking about our 10+ year relationship and the journey that brought them here today.
GEOFF COOMBES
2006 I was out riding with a mate (Gary Bertwistle), and I shared the idea to ride around my own country but to do it for a good cause. Reflecting back, I realised I had been doing more things each year for others (Shave Your Head, Grow Your Mo etc) and the idea of giving back at this time of my life there was a fire waiting to be lit.
My best friend (Samantha Hollier), an event GURU got involved with these ‘2 BLOKES having a chat over a coffee/ride’ and we became three founders of a charity which set about to get good people and business together, to do big bike rides raising money to help cure cancer. Tour de Cure was born!
Fast forward 15 yrs and Tour de Cure has raised over $73M, funded 550 World-Class Cancer Research, support & Prevention Projects and achieved 50 scientific Cancer breakthroughs. Over the years we have refined our Cancer Awareness message for kids to help educate and inspire them to learn about Cancer and how healthy lifestyle choices help reduce their risks. To date, we have shared this message with over 170,000 kids around the country.
A couple of CLIPS worth watching!

Corey is a powerhouse of energy. He has not only faced his toughest battle but he's come through it with flying colours. From his lowest point with drugs & alcohol, gaining 40kgs on the verge of self-destruction he managed to climb out from this dark place into healthier happier days where he lost 40kg of bad choices, in order to perform one amazing feat after another.. including running 24 hours at an Ultra Running event then pulling 1.5 tones for a marathon distance in under 24 hours (and smashes the record). Corey aims to set another world record doing the equivalent of an Ironman distance triathlon and does it all without any previous training and – with a 45kg log strapped to him.

#228. Youth and Community Work, Aid Work in Uganda and Police Career With Glenn Compain
Wednesday Sep 22, 2021
Wednesday Sep 22, 2021
Glenn Compain is a former Auckland NZ frontline policeman and current QPS officer - working largely with troubled youth, and he's seen things that would haunt your nightmares. Violent gangs, rampant drug and alcohol abuse, soul-destroying promiscuity, parents unwilling or unable to tackle the mess their kids are making of their young lives.
At 19 he led a team of voluntary aid workers to Uganda, where they worked with orphans and child soldiers during the civil war. In 2004 he co-founded the Village Community Services trust with ex All Black Michael Jones, which continues to deliver mentoring to over 500 young people at risk in schools across Auckland. A compelling and charismatic speaker, Glenn Compain is a powerful new addition to the HarperCollins social and parenting list and follows in the footsteps of Celia Lashlie and Nigel Latta.
Glenn's experience has taught him that every child is at risk at some stage during their formative years; that there are many influences in their lives that their parents can't hope to control. His message is that it is the parents' job to give their children the skills to make good decisions when times are tough. By sharing his own story and experiences from the frontline Glenn gives concerned parents the tools they need to spot the danger signs for their children themselves. While he doesn't claim to have all the answers, his common-sense approach and experience with troubled youth make his insight and ideas valuable tools to empower parents. A book for parents, teachers, and social workers, this streetwise, straight-talking look at today's world will have everyone talking.

#226. Turning Right – Inspire the Magic with Kay Bretz
Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
Whether in sports, work or life in general, ‘turning right’ as a metaphor for exploring unknown territory intuitively resonates with audiences, regardless of their background. Many conversations and broad media attention while Kay was publishing his first book have confirmed that people are seeking a life beyond the daily hamster wheel.
Kay Bretz
Fastest-Ever Australian at 24 Hour World Championships
I am a champion ultra-marathon runner (fastest-ever Australian at 24 Hour World Championships), corporate leader (ex-McKinsey consultant and senior leader at Woolworths and Coles), entrepreneur, keynote speaker, executive coach and author of Turning Right – Inspire the Magic. First and foremost, I’m an explorer. One day I turned right at my garden gate, just to realise that I’d never done that before. It was an image of how I was leading my life: full of control and not curious what was on offer beyond my self-imposed boundaries. Now, metaphorically speaking, I ‘turn right’ to inspire the magic.
